Provost of the College of Basic and Applied Sciences at the University of Ghana, Professor Mark Sandow Yidana, has advised freshmen to seek help whenever they encounter academic challenges, emphasizing that ignorance often leads to avoidable issues.

Speaking at the matriculation ceremony for new students of the College, Professor Yidana highlighted two major hurdles students commonly face in their academic journey: registration and examinations.

“There are two challenging stages in your academic life. The first is registration. Make sure you properly register for all the courses you are supposed to take. The second is examinations. For courses you haven’t registered for, you will not be able to sit the exams. So, make sure you register properly and familiarize yourself with examination rules,”* he stated.

He further noted that most academic difficulties stem from students failing to seek assistance when needed.

“Most of the challenges that students encounter here arise from the fact that they work in ignorance and do not bother to seek help. Please make sure you start well. Seek help whenever you need it”

Professor Yidana encouraged freshmen to visit their course advisors regularly, stressing the essential role these advisors play in guiding students through their academic journey.
