Director of Sports at the University for Development Studies (UDS), Mr. Shaibu Ibrahim Tanko, has affirmed that his team has fully bounced back from their semi-final heartbreak at the 2024 Ghana Universities Sports Association (GUSA) Games.

UDS exited the competition after a narrow 0-1 defeat to hosts, the University of Cape Coast (UCC), in a tense semi-final clash at the Robert Mensah Stadium in Cape Coast.

Despite the disappointment, Ibrahim Tanko maintains that the experience has only strengthened the team’s resolve ahead of their biggest challenge yet.

Speaking on Sports Night on Radio Univers, he assured fans that the setback would not hinder UDS’s determination to make a strong statement at the 2025 FISU University World Cup Football Tournament in China.

“You are referring to the Gusa games. Every tournament has a way we played. And again, we came for the Gusa games as a team that everybody was eyeing to beat.

“So, I mean, I wasn’t surprised that we lost in the semi-final against the hosts. Yes, the hosts were determined and did everything possible to win that match. But that will not deter us and it will not bring us down as far as the competition is concerned,” he said.
