Nations FC scored a late stoppage time goal to secure a 1-0 win over Accra Great Olympics at the Dr Kwame Kyei Sports complex on Friday, moving them to the top of the Ghana Premier League, at least for now.

Razak Simpson was on hand in stoppage time to ensure that Nations Fc comfortably came away with maximum points in the teams latest test against a resolute Accra Great Olympics defense.

Accra Great Olympics, known for their solid defensive work as a unit all season, were undone by an injury-time set-piece by Razak Simpson in the most dramatic fashion.

Nations FC, who are making considerable headway in Ghana’s top flight, given their stake as debutants amongst Ghana’s elite, put up a spirited performance which underlines the mission of the club, ‘unearthing talents for Ghana and the global markets’.

25-year-old Razak Simpson whipped in an angled free-kick from the edge of the box, causing loud, euphoric, and defeating noise in Abrankese. The fans of the newly prompted side reveled unendingly in the stands, rubbing their palms together at the prospect of doing the unthinkable and going all the way to nick the coveted GPL in their maiden campaign.

Kassim Mingle’s eyes sparkle as he aims for gold
Overcoming Berekum Chelsea, Dreams Fc, Kumasi Asante Kotoko and Accra Great Olympics in the span of 20 days is no easy feat. However, nations Fc manager Kassim Mingle has been able to showcase tactical adeptness in going through these games unscathed, picking up all available points and avoiding the concession of a goal against any of these sides.

An elated Mingle, relishing the prospect of winning the Ghana Premier League with Nations Fc could not hide his ravenous appetite to attain success with the club.

Initially, we said we want to make an impact in the league that we are playing. But as time goes on, we saw we are progressing. So we said, when the opportunity comes for us to grab, we’ll do it.

Nations Fc’s lead at the summit of the league could be short-lived if second-placed Sarmatex beat defending champions Medeama Sc in Sundays clash, with 10 games to go till the conclusion of a keenly contested title race.

Olympics hit Impasse !
Attacks wins you games but defence wins you titles “, said the Great Sir Alex Ferguson. In this light, Accra Great Olympics has managed to solidify themselves and built the teams core foundation on defending principles, leading to goalkeeper Benjamin Asare enjoying the most shutout by any shot-stopper in the division(13).

However, their 17 goals scored all campaign means the Accra based side is the second lowest scoring team in the division, only behind Bofoakwa Tano who have netted 15 times all campaign.

Olympics, who sit 5 points adrift the drop zone, would be hoping to avoid the duress of last season where they narrowly escaped relegation when they take on Bechem United in their next game.
