Accra Hearts of Oak has appointed Aboubakar Ouattara as new head coach after parting ways with Martinus Koopman 2 months ago.
The phobians were high on expectations heading into the ongoing season under the tenure of Dutch gaffer Martinus Koopman, but the veteran manager was axed from his position 10 games into the season.
Koopman, who was appointed in August and was at the helm of affairs for the phobians during a successful pre-season, was short of ideas 10 games into the season. The veteran manager racked up 2 wins, 2 losses and 6 draws, leaving him with a 12% win percentage after 10 games.
Hearts of Oak’s stodgy start to the campaign under Koopman saw the rainbow club lie 11th on the league log at his dismissal, picking up 12 points out of a possible 30, leading to his ultimate sack.
He was replaced by his assistant, Abdul Rahim Bashiru, on an interim basis to steady the phobian sinking ship till the end of the first round of games in the Ghana Premier League.
The club has however announced the appointment of Ivorian coach Aboubakar Ouattara on a two-and a half-year deal, with immediate effect.
The Ivorian formerly worked as Technical adviser for Moroccan giants, Wydad Athletic Casablanca between 2017-2023, aiding them in winning the prestigious CAF champions league twice. He also held a similar role in T.P Mazembpe between 2009-2011, yielding the same impact as the Congolese side won the CAF champions league as well.
Ouattara also won domestic league titles with TP Mazembpe and ASV club of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The CAF licensed A coach is expected to commence his work with the phobians next week after their pre season fixture against Techiman Eleven Wonders.
