The 2024/25 Ghana Premier League season got off to a surprising start, with debutants Basake Holy Stars shocking Ghanaian giants Accra Hearts of Oak 1-0 at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Prince Tweneboah scored just two minutes into the game, and despite Hearts of Oak’s efforts, they could not equalize, leaving their fans stunned.

Meanwhile, Kumasi Asante Kotoko, Hearts of Oak’s arch-rivals, began their campaign with a 1-0 win over Karela United at the Naa Sheriga Sports Complex, thanks to Albert Amoah’s 36th-minute goal, ending their winless streak against Karela since 2021.

Kpando Heart of Lions fought hard to draw 1-1 with Aduana Stars, with Mustapha Yakubu scoring in the 81st minute, but Aduana Stars equalized in stoppage time through Emmanuel Marfo.

Elsewhere, Bibiani Gold Stars beat Legon Cities 2-1, and Nsoatreman FC defeated newcomers Young Apostles 2-0. The match between Medeama and Accra Lions, which wrapped up the opening weekend, ended in favor of Medeama.

Medeama forward Bernardinho Osah Tetteh calmly converted from the penalty spot, giving the hosts their first goal of the new campaign.

This thrilling start to the season promises an exciting 2024/25 Ghana Premier League campaign.
