The Western Togoland Governing Council and the Defense Council have jointly announced the establishment of a specialized task force entrusted with three distinct missions.

In a released statement, the Council outlined that the task force, initiated on January 18, 2024, is assigned to conduct a concerted campaign against voting activities within the territories encompassed by Western Togoland.

Additionally, it will investigate and document individuals who collaborate with the Ghanaian government in what the council deems as the unjust arrest and detention of Western Togoland activists.

Furthermore, the task force is mandated to monitor and record expressions of support for the actions undertaken by the Ghanaian government.

The Council leadership has strongly advised the public to refrain from participating in any gatherings related to voting within Western Togoland. This decision follows the recent ruling by the UN Human Rights Council’s Working Group on Arbitrary Detention against Ghana, demanding the release of Western Togoland activists—a directive the Ghanaian government has reportedly not adhered to.

Traditional leaders are also urged to exercise prudence in their involvement with the Western Togoland cause and to abstain from aligning with politicians who may infringe upon human right
