The government has paid ₵10 billion in interest obligations to bondholders under the country’s Domestic Debt Exchange Programme (DDEP), according to sources at the Ministry of Finance.

The development marks the sixth coupon payment under the programme and notably represents the second full cash settlement, with no in-kind component, a move that significantly improves liquidity and strengthens fiscal discipline.

The settlement covers cedi-denominated DDEP coupon commitments, in line with the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the government and bondholders as part of broader cost rationalisation and a strategy of prudent fiscal management.

The prompt payment sends a positive signal to both local and international investors, reinforcing confidence in Ghana’s economy and reflecting the renewed trust being built through the new administration’s prudent economic management policies.

In August 2025, the Ministry paid out a total of ₵9.7 billion under the DDEP, bringing total settlements to nearly ₵19.4 billion, a strong demonstration of commitment to investors.

At the time, government officials indicated that the payments were not merely routine exercises, but a strong signal to investors and the general public of the administration’s determination to honour its commitments to stakeholders within the financial ecosystem.
