Preliminary discussions have begun to firmly place the University of Ghana on the country’s tourism map through a strategic partnership with the Ghana Tourism Development Company (GTDC).

‎The collaboration seeks to position the Legon campus as an official tourist destination, showcasing its cultural, historical and academic heritage.

‎At a recent stakeholder meeting, GTDC Chief Executive Officer Prof. Kobby Mensah stressed the need for a structured framework to integrate Legon into Ghana’s tourism offerings.

‎“This initiative will help diversify the experiences available to both local and international tourists,” he noted, adding that the company is committed to providing technical and financial support to make the project a reality.

‎Director of Public Affairs Dr. Elizier Ameyaw-Buronyah welcomed the proposal, highlighting its potential to distinguish the university as a premier destination for educational and cultural tourism.

‎ “Through this initiative, Legon could become one of the rare university campuses in Africa to be officially included in national tourism policy.”

‎The partnership underscores the university’s efforts to deepen engagement with stakeholders and promote innovative strategies for resource mobilization and visibility enhancement.
