Managing partner of Africa Legal Associates (ALA), Nana Adjoa Hackman has charged the 2023 graduating class of the University of Ghana Law School  to embrace the use of emerging and new technologies in their future legal practices.

She made the statement as a guest Speaker at the School of Law’s graduation ceremony at the Great Hall for the graduating class of 2023. The event took place on 19th August, 2023.

According to her, adjusting to the new trends in society, particularly the emergence of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools would enhance the discharge of their legal duties.

“Trends and innovations like AI tools, which if used well can improve the efficiency and productivity of lawyers and law firms, but can equally retire us all, if we fail to get on top of the rapid new developments taking place
How do we future proof ourselves, our firms, and our industry? My guess is that we must begin to be more solution oriented, more agile, and more adept to technological trends. It also means that like other ‘at-risk’ disciplines and professions, we must begin to adopt new ways of teaching, examining, and learning the law.”

She also encouraged the graduating class to prepare for the future ahead of them as upcoming legal practitioners.

“Your journey through law school and work as a legal practitioner will be filled with many wins, but there would also be some very difficult challenges. I urge you all to see the challenges that befall you as disguised opportunities for growth. For each of you, the decision to pursue a career in law would have been motivated by some reason, some purpose you seek to achieve. Whatever your motivation is, the best place to start is to build up yourselves. Invest in knowledge and skill, build expertise, and make a good impact,” she further remarked.

Graduating with a cumulative grade point average of 3.72, Miss Abigail Nakuor Wololo emerged as the valedictorian of graduating class of 2023.

Ms. Abigail Nakuor Wowolo is a graduate of the University of Ghana School of Law (UGSOL) who formerly attended Achimota School where she was the Deputy Senior Girls’ Prefect for the 2018/2019 Academic year and a member of the Writers’ and Debaters club as well as an Ex-officio member.

She was the Chief Justice of Jubilee Hall and a Member of the Judicial Board of the Student Representative Council (SRC) of the University of Ghana.

She is also an Associate Editor for the Federation of African Law Students (FALAS).

Ms. Wowolo hopes to build a strong network in the legal fraternity that would provide her an advantage to help propel her to advocate for the rights of people, ensure a better criminal justice system in Ghana and help educate people on the law and how it affects them.
