Black Stars lose consecutive matches to Japan and South Korea in 2025 Kirin Cup Challenge

Ghana suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat to South Korea in an international friendly on Tuesday, November 19, 2025, concluding their 2026 World Cup preparations on the Asian tour.

South Korea broke the deadlock in the 63rd minute when Lee Yae Seok fired home what proved to be the match-winner.

Ghana, however, produced one of the big moments of the game in the 74th minute as Ghana Premier League goalkeeper Benjamin Asare pulled off a brilliant save to deny Hwang Hee-Chan from the penalty spot, keeping the Black Stars in contention.

Head Coach Otto Addo made several changes to the side that faced Japan, handing starts to Benjamin Asare, Alidu Seidu, Gideon Mensah, Kojo Pepprah Oppong, Prince Owusu, Christopher Bonsu Baah and Prince Kwabena Adu.

Ghana had the ball in the net twice through Prince Adu and Jonas Adjetey, but both goals were ruled offside.

Despite showing improvement following the 2-0 loss to Japan on Friday, November 14, the Black Stars were unable to find the back of the net in either of their two friendly matches.

The result marks the end of Ghana’s Asian tour and brings their November international break to a close.
