Morocco’s national futsal team, led by Hicham Dguig, has proven unbeatable as they regain their title in the 2024 Futsal Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) held in their city.

Morocco, who are the defending champions of the Futsal AFCON, proved too strong for Angola in the final match of the tournament, recording a 5-1 triumph.

Morocco eased their way through group A, after being pitted against Angola, Zambia, and Ghana, securing maximum points in the group stages.

They set the tone for the competition by beating Angola 5-2 in their first group match, before staging an impressive performance to defeat Ghana 8-3, and ultimately capping off their group stage performances with a resounding 13-0 triumph over Zambia, which secured passage for the Atlas Lions into the semi-final.

In the semi-finals, they remained unstoppable, beating 2008 winners Libya by 6 goals to nil, which handed them qualification into the finals for a third successive time. Morocco went head-to-head with Angola, conceding a goal but scored 5 tremendous goals to nail the Futsal trophy.

The Atlas Lions made it as part of the top three teams of the tournament and qualified for the 2024 FIFA Futsal World Cup in Uzbekistan as one of three CAF representatives, making it their 4th Appearance in the FIFA Futsal World Cup.

Morocco achieved a historic milestone in the 2022 FIFA Futsal World Cup by becoming the first African nation to reach the semi-finals of the tournament after defeating Portugal in the quarter-finals.

As history beckons in September, Morocco’s team is relishing the prospect of rewriting their part.
