Assistant Manager of Corporate Communication at the Students Loan Trust Fund (SLTF), Barbara S. Danso, has advised beneficiaries of the government’s No Fees Stress Policy to manage their refunded academic fees wisely.
Speaking on Campus Exclusive on Radio Univers, Madam Danso encouraged students to consider reserving the reimbursed funds to support their registration for the next academic year.
“I would like to use this opportunity to advise our students. The fact that you have paid your fees doesn’t mean that this refund is for you to spend unwisely. You can keep it and then use it to pay your school fees next academic year.”
She also addressed why the initial phase of the refund process saw monies sent directly to students’ personal accounts, rather than their institutions.
”As indicated earlier, the monies were supposed to go to the respective institutions, but these students had already paid their academic fees. So, for this phase of the reimbursement, we are refunding those fees to the students. From next year, we are going to disburse directly to their institutions, not to the students,”she explained.
The No Fees Stress Policy is a government initiative aimed at reducing the financial burden on first-year university students and their families. It includes reimbursements for students who had already paid their academic fees before the policy was implemented. The SLTF serves as the implementing agency, overseeing the disbursement of funds to eligible students.
So far, more than 15,000 students have received their refunds, with many others still being processed. Applications remain open, with no fixed deadline announced yet.
