Arsenal's FA Cup hopes end in shock defeat to Southampton

The quarter-finals of the 2025/26 FA Cup, played over the weekend of April 4–5, delivered emphatic victories, late drama, and a major upset as the final four were confirmed.

Manchester City delivered one of the standout performances of the round, thrashing Liverpool FC 4–0. Erling Haaland stole the show with a hat-trick as City underlined their title credentials.

Chelsea FC were equally dominant, dismantling Port Vale FC 7–0 to bring an emphatic end to the League One side’s impressive run.

The biggest shock of the round came as Southampton FC defeated Arsenal FC 2–1. The Championship side produced a disciplined and clinical performance to knock out the Premier League leaders and end their hopes of a treble.

At the London Stadium, Leeds United FC progressed after a dramatic 2–2 draw with West Ham United, eventually winning on penalties in a closely contested encounter.

The results mean Manchester City, Chelsea, Southampton, and Leeds United have all advanced to the semi-finals, with Southampton continuing to stand out as the surprise package of the competition.

In the semi-final fixtures, Manchester City will face Southampton, while Chelsea take on Leeds United in what promises to be a tightly contested clash.

Both matches will be played at Wembley Stadium on April 25 and 26, with a place in the final at stake.
