Michael Carrick made it a dream start to his second stint as Manchester United interim manager following their two nil win over bitter rivals Manchester City at Old Trafford.
The Red devils were the better team for large parts of the game and were rewarded with their first goal in the 65th minute from Bryan Mbuemo who latched onto a pass from Bruno Fernandes to open the scoring.
Patrick Dorgu then sealed victory for United after getting the team’s second to end their 4 game winless run.
For Pep Guardiola’s side, the defeat marks a major setback in their pursuit of the Premier League title.
They are now seven points behind leaders Arsenal and with Mikel Arteta’s team in red hot form, possibly that ambition of winning the championship could be erased by this defeat.
Following the sacking of Ruben Amorim, there is pressure on Michael Carrick to steady the ship at his former club as they search for consistency in the English Premier League this season, and there could hardly have been a better way to begin his tenure than by defeating arch-rivals Manchester City for the 33rd time in Premier League history.
