In a thrilling finale to the University of Ghana’s 60th Inter-Halls Athletics competition, Level 200 student Elizabeth Agyei delivered a stunning performance, shattering the 800 meters record on Friday, 13th December 2024, at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium.
Agyei’s blistering time of 2min:23:48 secs eclipsed the previous record of 2min:23:51 seconds set in 2016 by Joycelyn Assafuah, cementing her status as a rising star in Ghanaian and African athletics.
As Agyei crossed the finish line, arms raised in triumph, the crowd erupted in cheers, celebrating her remarkable achievement.
In an exclusive interview with Univers Sports, Agyei shared her thoughts on her record-breaking run.
“I am proud of myself, and I’m happy that I’ve broken the record that was set 8 years ago, but it does not end here. I want to train very hard and set a record that will be difficult for anyone to break.”
With her sights set on even greater heights, Elizabeth Agyei’s future in athletics looks brighter than ever.
