The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has informed the general public of the interruption in power supply due to recent fire outbreak affecting structures near the Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo) transmission network.

The communique, published on the 6th of June, 2024 informed that the fire outbreak which occurred on the 5th of June near areas around the ECOMOG, Circle-Odawna had affected the GRIDCo 161KV transmission network, causing interruption of power supply to the Accra Central Bulk supply point (BSP). This has resulted in the unstable supply of power to areas within Accra.

“The Electricity Company of Ghana wishes to inform our cherished customers and the general public that at 5:31pm on Wednesday, June 5, 2024, a fire outbreak occured on structures near the GRIDCO 161KV transmission network causing interruption of power supply to the Accra Central bulk supply point (BSP).”

It was further stated that although supply has been restored to the Accra Central Bulk supply point, they have experienced technical challenges impacting the Mallam BSP, hence the recent development of interruption in power supply to consumers mainly within the western part of Accra.

However, the ECG continued to reassure affected customers that GRIDCo is actively rectifying the existing challenge to restore power to affected areas.

“ECG wishes to assure the affected customers that immediately GRIDCO rectifies the technical challenge, power will be restored. The inconvenience being caused by this power outage is deeply regretted.”
