The Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana has rescinded its decision to discontinue the use of indelible ink for the 2024 general elections.

This comes after the EC announced its decision to discontinue the use of indelible ink and use a biometric verification system. However, this decision faced opposition by the general public and various political parties.

Speaking at the launch of the election headquarters of JoyNews for the 2024 elections, the EC Deputy chairman, Dr. Eric Bossman stated that the commission will return to the use the indelible ink to boost the confidence of the populace in the system.

“We have our mandate clearly specified in the constitution, and we are there for the people of Ghana, and as an institution, we are always committed to ensuring that we make the Ghana project very proud. We want to ensure that everything that we want to do to make Ghana’s democracy a success.”

“Last year, we postulated that it will be better to do away with the indelible ink but as a listening institution, we have heard the concerns of the general public and parliamentarians as well as political parties; we have come to the conclusion that if by using the indelible ink people will have more confidence in the process, why not? As we speak, the commission is taking steps to ensure that all the features that will ensure credible open and transparent election are being put in place.”

DCOP Gabriel Prince, who was also present at the event, warned individuals who intend on causing troubles at the polls to desist from such acts.

“We are not leaving any stone unturned, especially when it comes to the general elections. Sensitization is ongoing. We and sister security are all doing what we can. Vigorous training and equipment have been gotten and all is geared towards the 2024 general elections.”

“The whole country is a hotspot, so we are planning towards the whole country and leaving no stone unturned.”
