The Electoral Commission (EC) has dismissed the National Democratic Congress’s (NDC) call for a forensic audit of the Provisional Voters Register (PVR), arguing that the established legal and administrative processes for addressing concerns with the register have not yet been fully utilized.

According to the EC, these mechanisms must be thoroughly exhausted before any consideration of a forensic audit can be justified.

The Commission’s stance was outlined in a letter addressed to NDC Chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, following a petition submitted by the party after a demonstration held on September 17, 2024.

The letter, which was also shared with key stakeholders such as the Majority and Minority Leaders of Parliament, civil society organizations, the diplomatic community, and prominent religious bodies like the National Peace Council, the Christian Council of Ghana, the Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council, the Chief Imam, and the Ahmadiyya Mission, reiterated the EC’s commitment to its mandate.

The EC emphasized that the processes in place, which include legal recourse and administrative reviews, are designed to ensure the integrity of the voter register and must be fully implemented before seeking additional measures like a forensic audit.

The Commission appealed to the public to have confidence in its ability to manage and maintain the electoral register, urging all parties to follow due process in addressing any concerns.
