The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, also known as Chairman Wontumi, is expected to return to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Headquarters at 3:00 PM on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, in connection with ongoing investigations into alleged illegal mining activities.
His upcoming appearance follows a visit to the CID on Monday, May 26, after he was invited by the Director-General of the department. He was accompanied by a team of lawyers, including former Attorney General Godfred Dame.
The CID is investigating Mr. Antwi-Boasiako for allegedly engaging in mining without a license, polluting water bodies, and unlawfully entering a forest reserve.
A statement from the CID, signed by Superintendent Joseph Benefo Darkwah of the Public Affairs Unit, confirmed that Chairman Wontumi cooperated fully, provided a statement, and was granted bail.
