In a crucial CAF Champions League encounter played at the Baba Yara Stadium, Al Ahly successfully set a new record of beating a Ghanaian club in the CAF champions League yesterday  for the first in their illustrious history, following a 1-0 slender win over Medeama Sc in Kumasi.

Since the rebranding of the African Cup of Champions to the CAF Champions League, Al Ahly had visited Ghana on four occasions in the money zone of the CAF Champions League, but the Red Devils had been unable to record a single win all their  previous attempts prior to yesterday.

Medeama faced a setback in their knockout hopes following a narrow defeat to tournament favorites Al Ahly.

The Yellow and Mauves started the game positively, creating several goal scoring opportunities in the first half. However, they were unable not find the back of the net despite the total dominance displayed on home soil.

Former Brighton and Hove Albion forward Percy Tau terrorized Medeama’s defensive backline throughout the game, picking pockets of spaces and causing havoc with his darting runs.

Immediately after the recess , Al Ahly’s  Hussein El Shahat capitalized on a blunder from Medeama’s defense by pouncing on a lose ball and finishing with precision, after a well-laid pass from Anthony Modeste in the 18-yard box.

Medeama are now reliant on the outcome of the match between Young Africans and CR Belouizdad on Saturday, as a draw between the sides keeps their hopes of qualification  alive.

Medeama, who now sit bottom of Group D with four points, will play their final group game against CR Belouizdad away from home
