BPL WK 16: Mukwala shines as kotoko thrashes Accra Lions

Reigning champions Kumasi Asante Kotoko  thrashed Accra lions by four goals to nil at the Baba Yara sports stadium in Kumasi on monday February 6,2023.

Stephen Mukwala scored twice as  Rashid Nortey and Enoch Morrison added two goals to seal an emphatic 4-0 win for Kotoko. The porcupine warriors are second on the league log with 27 points with just a point separating them from league leaders Aduana stars whiles Accra Lions are in fifth position with 26 points.

Speaking after the game head coach for Asante Kotoko Seydou Zerbo said the preparations of the team was key to their victory and commended his players for  their ruthlessness.

“we have done it all because we have prepared that this match of today they should play to their last and make sure that we win this very match and they have done it”

Further speaking, the Kotoko gaffer blamed his side’s inconsistent results on the injury crisis the team is grappling with.

‘You know that’s the thing consistency but we can not say much because the players are getting injured. All the time match after match they are getting injured you can see today about two players  got another injury and we have to replace them so we will work on that.” Seydou Zerbo added.

MEAN WHILE,

Accra lions head coach Tanko Ibrahim believes inexperience on the part of his players contributed to their defeat however Kotoko were the better side in the game.

“Kotoko were the better side so they deserve to win. I think is a very young team and as you said they need experience I don’t know if the name Kotoko just come over them but I think this is Kotoko we lost against better team so we will go and prepare for the next game” Tanko Ibrahim said.

Kotoko are hoping to defend their league title and in order for their ambition to come into fruition, they need to be more consistent with their performance.

In the other results, RTU defeated Accra Hearts of Oak by a lone goal to nil,  Medeama SC  defeated Samartex by two goals to nil. Aduana stars were two-nil winners over Nsoatreman FC. Accra great Olympics drew one all with Dreams Fc while Berekum Chelsea Overcame a tough contest from their Arch rivals Bechem United to win one-zero in the Bono Derby.

The  standings after match day sixteen; Aduana stars are leading the table with 31 points, Bechem united are second with 26 points same points with fourth placed Accra Lions with Accra hearts of oak occupying the fifth position with 25 points.

In the relegation zone, Kotoku royals are bottom with 10 points, Tamale City lie Seventeenth with 15 points and King Faisal are 16th with 17 points.
