Black Stars defender, Alidu Seidu has been sharing on his experience debuting at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi. The match was an AFCON qualifier games, where Ghana’s Black Stars had to face The Central African Republic’s players.
Alidu described the experience as ‘great’, expressing excitement on playing in the midst of Kumasi inhabitants.
“Playing in Kumasi was a great experience. It was the first time playing in Kumasi so I was so happy playing in front of my people in Kumasi,” he said in an interview with the GFA media.
The Clément foot defender and JMG academy graduate also described the opportunity Black Stars’ Coach Chris Hugton had given himl to play for the nation a great honour to behold.
“Representing my country is a big privilege for me and it is a special thing in my career because all footballers dream of playing for their country. Me playing for my motherland is a big achievement for me,” he added.
The match against CAR saw spectators at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium cheering Alidu Seidu’s name during and after the game following his solid display at defense.
Reacting to the praise from the spectators, he called the chants a boost and an encouragement to his performance on the field.
“Being born in Kumasi, I have a lot of fans in Kumasi and people chanting my name, it always boosts me and encourage me to give more to the fans to enjoy more.”
The Senior national men’s team black stars have never lost at the Kumasi Sports Stadium since 2000, where they succumbed to a defeat in a match against South Africa.
The stadium, which is at the heart of the Kumasi region has been tagged a fortress for Ghana’s various national teams.
