Bawku curfew renewed, hours reduced – Interior minister

The Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, has renewed the curfew in the Bawku Municipality following advice from the National Security Council and by Executive Instrument.

In a statement issued and signed by the minister on October 6, 2025, he directed that the curfew in Bawku Municipality be renewed effective Monday, October 6, 2025, from 8:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. This is an adjustment from the previous 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. curfew.

“The Minister for the Interior, on the advice of the National Security Council and by Executive Instrument, has renewed the curfew hours for Bawku Municipality and its environs in the Upper East Region from 8:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m., effective Monday, October 6, 2025,” the statement read.

The statement also called on residents to support government efforts to address the unrest in the Upper East Region.

“Government calls on Chiefs, Elders, Opinion Leaders, the Youth, and the people of the area to exercise restraint in the face of the challenges confronting them and to use non-violent means to channel their energies into ensuring peace.”

Furthermore, the statement reminded the public of a ban on the possession of arms and ammunition in the Bawku Municipality. It stressed that anyone found with offensive weapons will be arrested and prosecuted.

“Meanwhile, there is a total ban on all persons in the Bawku Municipality and its environs from carrying arms, ammunition, or any offensive weapons. Any person found in possession will be arrested and prosecuted,” it added.
