Members of the Democracy Hub have reported that their convener Oliver Barker-Vormawor, was rushed to the Police Hospital Thursday morning, for medical attention after his health deteriorated.
This marks the second time his health has taken a turn for the worse since his detention on September 23, 2024, during the #StopGalamsey protests.
Barker-Vormawor was among 53 activists detained, but unlike the other 52 who were granted bail on October 9, 2024, he was denied bail, despite multiple appeals to the High Courts in Accra.
According to the group, medical professionals are conducting tests to assess his condition and determine whether hospitalization is necessary.
The Democracy Hub is urging Ghanaians to keep Oliver Barker-Vormawor in their thoughts and prayers as he faces health challenges while in police custody.
“Democracy Hub is deeply troubled to report that our convener, activist Oliver Barker-Vormawor, was rushed to the Police Hospital earlier this morning due to serious concerns over his health. Oliver remains in police custody, having been one of the 53 activists unjustly detained during the #StopGalamsey and #OccupyJulorbiHouse protests on September 21, 2024.
Currently, medical professionals are conducting tests to assess his condition and determine whether hospitalization is necessary.”
The police have yet to confirm or deny the report.
The case has been adjourned to October 22 for a case management conference
