Ghanaian rapper Medikal is facing public backlash after a video surfaced showing him inappropriately touching a female fan during his performance at the Evandy-Bani Hall Week celebration, held on Saturday, June 14, 2025, at the University of Ghana.

The event, themed “Apocalypse”, attracted hundreds of students to the university’s campus. During Medikal’s performance, an enthusiastic female fan was invited on stage to dance. Upon her arrival, the rapper hugged her and proceeded to touch her buttocks—an act that left the young woman visibly uncomfortable.

Shortly after the incident, Medikal asked the lady if she had a boyfriend. She replied that she did and identified him as Daniel. Medikal then called on fellow artist Kofi Yesu to gift her ₵1,000, claiming it was a reward for her honesty. The gesture, however, received mixed reactions from the crowd, with many interpreting it as an attempt to compensate for what they perceived as inappropriate conduct.

Some University of Ghana students voiced their displeasure in interviews with Univers Entertainment.

“I’ve heard of artists giving fans money before, especially when they’re honest in situations like this. But in this case, it just didn’t sit right. It felt more like damage control than a reward,” said a Level 400 male student.

“I don’t think Medikal should’ve touched her at all. Being an artist doesn’t give you the right to cross boundaries. It was disrespectful,” added a Level 300 male student.

Another student remarked, “The whole thing was wrong. Giving her money right after touching her made it seem like he was trying to pay her off. It came across as harassment. Honestly, it was uncomfortable to watch.”

The incident has reignited conversations around consent, public decency, and the responsibility of entertainers, particularly during performances in academic spaces. While Medikal has yet to issue a public statement, many fans and students are urging him to apologise and reflect on the impact such behaviour can have on audiences, especially within university environments.
