Ghanaian highlife musician Ayisi has clinched the Record of the Year award at the 2025 Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA) for his soul-stirring track, “Can I Live?” The song, originally released three years ago, experienced a resurgence in popularity following a captivating live acoustic session that resonated deeply with audiences.
In an interview on JoyPrime TV with Roselyn Felli on 19th May, 2025, Ayisi shared insights into the song’s journey. He revealed that despite its initial release, “Can I Live?” didn’t garner significant attention until the live performance, which breathed new life into the track and showcased its profound message.
‘Can I Live?’ was released in 2022 on the Unbroken album. Last track on the Unbroken album, you know, when I released it, it didn’t do what it’s doing now. Until after I did the live session with Pee Weezer in the Q Live band. And then it’s like, it’s a new song. Yeah, my story is strange.
The song’s renewed acclaim underscores the power of authentic musical expression and the impact of live performances in connecting with listeners. Ayisi’s dedication to his craft and his ability to convey deep emotions through music have solidified his place in Ghana’s music industry.
“Can I Live?” continues to inspire and captivate audiences, marking a significant milestone in Ayisi’s musical journey.
