The Librarian of the Universoty of Ghana’s Balme Library, Mrs Theodosia Adanu expressed delight in the successful outcome of the launch of the maiden Library and Open Science Week.

The week’s celebration which commenced on the 20th of October, 2023 began with a launch and had programs such as an Exhibition of the Balme Library and other various libraries on campus, Library Tours with selected senior high schools and the University of Ghana community, and a competition between the schools. The Library Loud Day event, which was on the 27th of October climaxed the entire weekly celebration, with a conclusive mix and mingle evening event.

Speaking to her, she expressed her satisfaction about the outcome of the celebration as she received positive reception and feedback from students.

“I think it’s been very successful. I’ve been excited about the number of students who have come and I believe they’ve enjoyed themselves. I’ve interacted with a number of them and they were able to tell me what they would like changed in the library and all that. And one decision I went away with was that we need a suggestion box so that we can get these suggestions not once a year, but every day of the week.”

She mentioned that many students who were lucky to come by the library during the cocktail night really had fun. There were lots of food, drinks and music to entertain the attendees. Aside that there was a game of musical chairs amidst the interactive environment which made the event a memorable one.

“We just wanted fun and then in the fun to socialize and to communicate to the users the importance of the library and that the library is not a cemetery, it’s much more than that.”

She later expressed her wish to receive feedback from students regarding their experience from the event.
