The Attorney-General has dropped the prosecution against the organiser of the Democracy Hub protesters, who were detained for demonstrating against illicit mining (galamsey).

Following their rally, the demonstrators who came to the streets to call for more government action against environmental degradation were arrested and charged.

However, all accusations have been dropped by the Attorney General’s office, so the case is essentially over.

During the demonstration, some 53 people were taken into custody, including Ama Governor and convenor Oliver Barker-Vormawor.

This individual were taken into custody during protests meant to increase public awareness of the damaging environmental repercussions of illicit mining, or galamsey.

Concern over the devastation of forests, farmlands, and waterways as a result of uncontrolled mining operations has grown among activists.
