Management of the National Service Scheme have suspended the Ashanti Regional NSS Director Mr. Alex Opoku Mensah with immediate effect, following an emergency meeting on the Wednesday, 30th November 2022, with the leadership of the scheme.
Mr. Alex Opoku-Mensah who has been suspended by the NSS was heard in a viral audio verbally abusing a nurse at the Manhyia Government Hospital, in the Ashanti Region after she had an alleged misunderstanding with his daughter, a doctor at the facility. However, he has apologized to the general public for his gross misconduct.
His actions were widely condemned by majority of Ghanaians on social media, including the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association, who have also threatened to embark on an industrial action if the Ashanti Regional Director for the National Service Scheme, is not sacked.
Meanwhile, NSS management explains, the decision is to allow to probe further into the investigation with the alleged verbal assault on a nurse at the Manhyia Government Hospital in Kumasi.
Adding to it, a committee has been set up with representatives from the National Service Scheme, the Public Service Commission and the Ministry of Education to thoroughly investigate the matter and submit its report to the NSS management within a month.
Mr. Alex Opoku Mensah is to appear before the Committee on Monday, 5th December 2022.
