The Ghana Women’s FA Cup saw a thrilling Service Final on Saturday at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium in Legon, as Ghana Army Ladies clashed with Police Ladies.

Army Ladies have won the trophy for the first time in their history and have also completed a hat trick of victories over Police Ladies this season after beating them twice in Malta Guinness Women’s Premier League.

Police Ladies, buoyed by their 2016 title success, aimed to force their experience in the competition as they faced off against Ghana Army Ladies. The highly anticipated match at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium got off to a thrilling start, with both teams fielding strong starting lineups and the electric atmosphere boosted by the vibrant Jama songs from the supporters of both sides.

The deadlock of the game was eventually broken in the 58th minute after Deborah Opoku utilized an opportunity when Police Ladies Goalkeeper Barikisu Issahaku failed to grab a long-range shot which later fell in front of the Goal scorer who was in a good position to score.

In the 70th minute, Goalscorer Deborah Opoku was shown a second yellow card which led to the first red card of the game after a nasty tackle on an opponent. This gave the numerical advantage to Police ladies with just 20 minutes to end proceedings.

Police Ladies failed to utilize their chances as Centre referee Rejoice Adokwei blew the whistle to end the game after 90+5 minutes of Play. Army Ladies were crowned Champions of the 2023/24 Women’s FA Cup for the first time in history.
