Apple Music celebrates Nigerian artists on their 64th Independence Day

As Nigeria celebrated its 64th Independence Day on October 1, 2024, Apple Music revealed its list of the most-streamed Nigerian songs, albums, and artists, showcasing the country’s musical influence worldwide.

The music platform honored the celebration with the theme ”Oshe Naija,” reflecting the diverse cultural sounds of Nigeria.

Afrobeat sensation, Burna Boy led the list as the most-streamed Nigerian artiste, followed closely by Wizkid and Davido.

Wizkid’s 2020 album, ”Made in Lagos” emerged as the most-streamed Nigerian album, while Rema’s ”Calm Down” remix which featured Selena Gomez, secured the title of the most-streamed Nigerian song of all time on Apple Music.

The list also featured artists such as Asake, Tems, Omah Lay, Fireboy DML, Bnxn, and Olamide.

Last year, Burna Boy, Wizkid, and Rema were recognized as part of the five most influential Nigerian artists, alongside Davido and Asake.

The music platform stated that the country’s vibrant musical scene is made up of diverse cultural influences, all contributing to Nigeria’s unique way of showcasing their art and talents.

“From the bustling streets of Lagos to the lush landscape of Taraba, this year, Oshe Naija celebrates the country’s abundant sonic diversity with an exploration of its most dynamic sounds and the regions that birthed them.”

Some notable albums that have contributed to this year’s celebration include, Asake’s ”Mr. Money With The Vibe” and ”Work of Art,” Davido’s ”Timeless,” and Omah Lay’s ”Boy Alone.”
