Rising Ghanaian artist Alordia Gyamfi, popularly known as Alor G, is carving his name in the music industry with passion, sacrifice, and a rebellious spirit. Known for his bold choices and fearless artistry, Alor G recently opened up about his journey on Radio Univers’ At The DJ’s Mercy on December 6, 2024, shedding light on his new EP, Down I’m a Rebel, and his incredible rise to fame.

Deferring School for a Dream

Alor G’s music career began with a bold decision to defer his studies at Accra Academy Senior High School to pursue music full-time.

“I deferred! I didn’t continue. I didn’t want to come to the university because I needed more time to myself,” he revealed.

This choice, though unconventional, laid the foundation for the artist he is today.

The Rebel’s Statement

At the core of Alor G’s artistry is his new EP, Down I’m a Rebel, a project inspired by his personal sacrifices and resilience. He describes the title as a powerful declaration of his journey:

Down I’m a Rebel is a statement meant to tell everyone that I’ve been through crazy things, and I’ve made a lot of sacrifices, so nobody should tell me to relax. A rebel is someone who opposes something negative. You’re a rebel, I’m a rebel, everybody is a rebel.”

Alor G’s favorite track off the EP, For Di Road, is a personal anthem he enjoys performing. Originally planned for release in January 2024, the EP’s teaser dropped earlier than expected, with the team’s creative spark pushing them to release what they felt was a surefire hit.

Freestyle to Studio Magic

The process behind For Di Road highlights Alor G’s organic approach to music creation.

“We used to freestyle every day,” he recalled. “One day, I was at their hostel, and Paul started freestyling. We were like, ‘Naa, this thing is a banger.’ So we went to the studio, and it happened.”

A Miracle Collaboration

One of the standout moments of Alor G’s career was the Free My Mind (Remix) collaboration with UK-based Afrobeat group NSG. Reflecting on how it came together, Alor G called the moment “a miracle.”

“We were randomly calling out names of big artists who could be a good fit for the remix. I called out NSG, and a few weeks later, we received a verse from them.”

Tattooed Beliefs

Alor G’s belief in his craft runs so deep that he wears it on his skin—literally. The artist, who sports six tattoos, revealed that his favorite is the “Rebel” tattoo, symbolizing his unwavering faith in his music. The entire team even got matching tattoos in honor of their hit Free My Mind, demonstrating their collective belief in the track.

Brotherhood and Beginnings

During his time at Accra Academy, Alor G met Bhadmayors, the duo that has since become his creative family.

“They were my seniors in school, and one day, they asked me to sing. From then, we’ve been more than brothers,” he shared, reflecting on how their bond has shaped his career.

The Road Ahead

As December heats up with events, Alor G is looking forward to a packed schedule of shows and even bigger projects in 2025. His journey is a testament to resilience, risk-taking, and the rewards of following one’s passion.

With Down I’m a Rebel, Alor G not only solidifies his place in Ghana’s music scene but also invites fans to embrace their inner rebel and break free from societal expectations. As his star continues to rise, one thing is clear—Alor G is just getting started.
