Principal of the Akim Oda Community Health Nurses Training School in the Birim Central Municipality of the Eastern region, Mr. Jones Abeka-Baah has called for dormitories to accomodate nurses training students and a bus for their transportation.
The principal made this statement at the sixteenth matriculation held at the school campus in Akim Oda, to welcome new nurses training students were into the school.
Mr. Abeka-Baah revealed that there were no vehicles in good conditions for transport in the school, making it hard for students to practise their clinicals in rural areas.
”The school doesn’t have a bus which is in a good condition to transport nurses training students from the school to rural areas for the students’ clinical. The two buses that we have in the school now are not strong enough to transport them, especially our white bus which is over thirty years now. That bus was given to us by the Japanese government.”
Mr. Abeka-Baah also made it known that the school didn’t have enough dormitories for students’ acomodation.
According to him, various calls had been made to many stakeholders, as they await response.
”We called on cooperate institutions, individuals and government to come to our aid by providing the school with a new bus and enough dormitories for our students. We are still waiting for feedback from them.”
Meanwhile, some of the nursing sstudents in the school also shared the challenges they faced in pursuing their courses, which included matters in relation to academics, accomodation, transport among others.
These nursing students however encouraged individuals with the intention of enrolling in the nurses training school to do so with determination without being discouraged.
