Black Stars and KRC Genk forward Joseph Paintsil, has assured Ghanaians that the team is capable of qualifying for AFCON 2023.
Speaking to the media, he explained that the team is prepared and motivated to perform in the upcoming clash with Madagascar.
”Every player who is invited here is motivated for this clash, as you can see we have the belief, the teamwork and commitment is there. Even though they had some ups and downs, that doesn’t really affect them in the national team. We are really ready and focused on the game against Madagascar. We are ready to give it all for the fans and all Ghanaians.”
Prior to the team’s encounter with Madagascar, Paintsil said that despite his stellar performance at the club level, he is not under any pressure to score goals for his nation.
The former Tema Youth prodigy has been on fire for KRC Genk in the Belgium Pro League in the just-ended season, netting 17 goals and providing 11 assists in 36 games. A total of 29 goals contribution, the most by any Ghanaian player across Europe.
“For me, I am not really under pressure you know. My style of play is to always help the team in terms of giving assists, in terms of fighting, in terms of defending, in terms of taking players on that’s my task. If I score, we thank God but the most important thing is the team.”
The Black Stars of Ghana will take on the Bareas of Madagascar on June 18, at the Mahamasina Municipal Stadium in Antananarivo, in the penultimate fixture of the AFCON qualifiers. The Black Stars are on top of Group E with 8 points, winning twice and drawing the other two.
