UG: Ramzy Ahmed wins SRC General Assembly Speaker race

Former University of Ghana Students Representative Council (UGSRC) Vice Presidential Candidate, Ramzy Ahmed has won the SRC General Assembly race.

The election which took place on Sunday, February 5, 2023 at the Mensah Sarbah Hall Dining Hall saw Ramzy Ahmed emerge victorious with 68 votes out of 137 total votes cast.

His opponents, Sidney Debrah, Edward Boateng and Adriana Bawuah had 5, 32 and 32 votes respectively.

Ramzy Ahmed was sworn in by the SRC Chief Justice, Kwabena A. Addae-Marfo.

He expressed his gratitude to the members of the General Assembly who threw their weight behind him and promised to work efficiently in his new position.

“I want to see the SRC work. I am not here to contest or oppose anyone. The policies i had before running for SRC Vice President; I believe that I can work with this current administration to achieve all that. So thank you very much for conferring this legitimacy on me. I am so much grateful,” he said.

The election of the General Assembly Speaker marked the first sitting for the 2022/2023 academic year.

The Dean of Students Affairs, Prof. Rosina Kyeremanteng, alongside some security personnel, was also present at the meeting to ensure a smooth running of the electoral process.

Elisha Owusu Akyaw and Abubakar Ayuba also emerged as the Deputy Speaker and Clerk of the General Assembly for the 2022/2023 academic year.
