The Dean of Student Affairs at the University of Ghana, Prof. Rosina Kyerematen, says the University has strict policies to protect students against bullying and discrimination.

She made these comments as part of activities marking the International Day Against Violence and Bullying at School, observed on Thursday, 5 November 2026.

Speaking exclusively to Univers News, she said the University has various policies and mechanisms to prevent bullying and also protect students from such acts.

“The University of Ghana has many policies that protect students of all calibers and at all levels. So, we have, for instance, the anti-sexual harassment policy, we have the gender policy, we have several policies and included in these policies are clauses, you know, the University does a lot to protect students,” she said.

She also stated that the University is governed by rules that prohibit any form of bullying in the University community.

“We don’t condone students bullying in the class, bullying in the halls, people being bullied because they are female or physically challenged in any way. You know, we have rules and laws that govern the University. We have the Junior Members Handbook that spells out all these things, the general conduct of our students. They are all spelled out in the Junior Members Handbook, and we frown upon all kinds of bullying,” she added.

Prof. Kyerematen also highlighted the role of the University’s Careers and Counselling Directorate in supporting students whose mental health is affected by bullying.

“We have the Careers and Counselling Directorate. So we have people who are ready to help counsel these people who feel that their mental health state is being affected because they are being bullied,” she stated.

She further stated that students found culpable of bullying would face disciplinary sanctions.

“Once we identify the people who are carrying out these kinds of bullying, we have ways of addressing it. We have disciplinary measures. We will caution you. If you continue to do it, you’ll be hauled to disciplinary committee, and the appropriate sanctions will be meted out to you,” she said.
