The University of Ghana (UG) is set to host the inaugural Ghana Higher Education Summit on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, at the Cedi Conference Centre on the University’s Main Campus.

The Summit will bring together university leaders, policymakers, industry representatives, development partners, alumni and other stakeholders to deliberate on the future of higher education financing in Ghana.

Organised under the theme, “Universities at Crossroads: Charting Sustainable Funding Pathways for Inclusive Higher Education,” the Summit seeks to provide a national platform for exploring innovative, sustainable and inclusive funding pathways that will strengthen teaching, research and institutional resilience within Ghana’s universities.

The programme will be chaired by the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ghana, Prof. Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, with the Vice President of the Republic of Ghana, Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, serving as the Special Guest of Honour.

The keynote address will be delivered by Emeritus Professor Ernest Aryeetey, former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ghana.

A distinguished panel of experts comprising Prof. Fred McBagonluri, President of Academic City University; Emerita Professor Akosua Adomako Ampofo; Prof. John Gyapong, Secretary-General of the Alliance of Research Universities (ARUA); and Prof. Kwame Akyeampong, Professor of International Education and Development, will lead discussions on sustainable financing models, strategic partnerships, philanthropy, research funding and other key issues shaping the future of higher education.

The Summit is expected to stimulate new thinking, promote collaboration and generate practical strategies to strengthen the resilience, competitiveness and long-term sustainability of Ghana’s higher education sector.

The University community and other key stakeholders are encouraged to participate in this landmark conversation on the future of higher education in Ghana.
