The College of Health Sciences at the University of Ghana has taken preventive healthcare to Mamprobi, screening hundreds of pupils and teachers at the Salvation Army Cluster of Schools Park on Wednesday, June 24, 2026.

The exercise formed part of activities marking the Day of Scientific Renaissance of Africa (DSRA) 2026 and focused on early detection of health conditions among students and members of the surrounding community.

Chair of the Research Board of the College of Health Sciences, Professor Yaw Afrane, led a team of health professionals to conduct the outreach. He explained that the initiative was designed to bring healthcare closer to the people and identify potential health issues early.

Speaking to Univers News at the event, Professor Afrane said the decision to hold the screening in Mamprobi was intentional.

“We brought this outreach to Mamprobi to detect health issues early among students and the community. Those with problems were referred to hospitals, including UG, before the issue worsened,” he said.

He also urged Ghanaians to prioritise regular health checks, stressing the importance of prevention in healthcare.

“Prevention is always better than cure. Just like servicing a car every 5000km, we need to check our body. Prevention remains better than cure,” he stated.

The DSRA 2026 outreach reflects the University of Ghana’s commitment to community health, research engagement, and public education, with similar interventions expected in other communities.
