The 27th edition of the Telecel Ghana Music Awards may be over, but the conversations it sparked are far from ending.
Interestingly, it is not the award winners or performances dominating social media discussions, but rather the celebrity fashion moments and the harsh critiques that followed them.
Over the past two weeks, fashion reviews from the prestigious event have generated intense debate online, with fans, bloggers, and entertainment lovers constantly weighing in on who impressed and who missed the mark on the red carpet.
One of the biggest talking points now revolves around musician Gyakie and renowned fashion critic Charlie Dior.
During a recent episode of his fashion review show, Charlie Dior, known for openly critiquing celebrity red carpet looks, shared his thoughts on Gyakie’s outfit at the TGMAs.
The “Forever” hitmaker stepped onto the red carpet in a glamorous, body-hugging evening gown designed with a striking blue-and-silver colour combination, paired with a dramatic veil detail.
However, Charlie Dior was clearly unimpressed with the look. While reviewing the outfit, she stated:
“I don’t understand her whole look. Her colour choice, the placement of the silver stones — I don’t understand. And why did she put the veil on the outfit? Because it looks like a decorated mosquito net.”
The statement instantly went viral, sparking mixed reactions across social media. While some users agreed with the criticism, others felt the comments were unnecessarily harsh towards the singer.
Gyakie, however, did not remain silent. The singer responded through her Snapchat story by reposting the video of Charlie Dior’s review alongside the caption, “Mosquito net sɛ sɛn?” — meaning, “How is this a mosquito net?”
She later intensified the subtle feud by sharing photos of some of Charlie Dior’s own red carpet outfits, a move many social media users interpreted as a silent but sharp clapback. Although Gyakie did not add any captions to the posts, the message appeared loud enough to keep the online conversation going, with many fans now debating not only Gyakie’s TGMA outfit but also Charlie Dior’s own fashion choices over the years.
The beef has now sparked intense discussions about who qualifies to be a fashion critic. After all, if you can talk the talk, then can you walk the talk?
