Black Queens climb to 59th in FIFA rankings, remains third in Africa, boosting confidence ahead of 2026 WAFCON

Ghana’s senior women’s national team, the Black Queens, have climbed three places in the latest FIFA Women’s World Rankings, moving from 62nd to 59th globally.

The improvement reflects the team’s recent performances and signals renewed momentum as they continue to rebuild on the international stage.

The latest rise highlights the impact of ongoing efforts to strengthen the squad, with a clear focus on returning Ghana to the top tier of global women’s football. In recent months, the Black Queens have shown signs of consistency and growth, boosting confidence among fans and stakeholders.

On the continental front, the team continues to assert its place among Africa’s elite. Ghana is currently ranked third in Africa, behind powerhouses like Nigeria women’s national football team and South Africa women’s national soccer team. This standing reinforces the Black Queens’ competitive pedigree and their status as one of the continent’s strongest sides.

The team’s progress is also evident in their impressive run during the qualifiers for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), where they delivered dominant performances to secure qualification. Ghana has been drawn in a competitive group alongside Cameroon, Mali, and Cape Verde for the upcoming tournament which is set to commence on July 26.

With the 2026 WAFCON also serving as a pathway to the next FIFA Women’s World Cup, the improved ranking comes at a crucial time.

It is expected to serve as a confidence boost for the Black Queens as they intensify preparations for the tournament, with the aim of making a strong impact and reclaiming their place among the very best in women’s football.
