Edem Agbana Scholarship Scheme continues to empower students through the Ketu North Scholar Awards

The second edition of the Ketu North Scholar Awards, held under the Edem Agbana Scholarship Scheme, has taken place in Dzodze in the Ketu North Municipality of the Volta Region, drawing students, traditional authorities, educators, and community leaders.

The initiative, led by Member of Parliament for Ketu North,  Eric Edem Agbana, continues to support brilliant but needy students in accessing higher education across Ghana.

Addressing the gathering, Agbana reaffirmed that the scholarship scheme was born out of a strong personal conviction to ensure that no young person in Ketu North is denied higher education due to financial constraints.

Reflecting on the programme’s growth, he noted that although its sustainability was initially questioned, it has proven to be both impactful and necessary.

“When we launched this initiative, some people wondered whether it was sustainable or too ambitious. Today, it is clear that it is not only sustainable but necessary, and it continues to grow,” he said.

He revealed that during its maiden edition, scholarships were awarded to 421 students across various public tertiary institutions. He described each beneficiary as a symbol of hope for families, a source of pride for communities, and a contribution to national development.

Agbana highlighted the positive impact of the initiative, noting improvements in academic performance, increased confidence among beneficiaries, and a stronger sense of belonging on campuses nationwide.

Speaking on this year’s theme, “Empowering Ketu North through Access to Higher Education,” he emphasized that education remains central to development, adding that long-term national progress depends largely on an educated population.

He also urged beneficiaries to take their academic responsibilities seriously, describing the scholarship as an opportunity that must be matched with excellence, service, and humility. He encouraged them to see themselves as future leaders with a responsibility to give back to society.

Agbana expressed appreciation to partners, donors, and supporters whose contributions have sustained the initiative, describing their efforts as an investment in the future of Ketu North, the Volta Region, and Ghana.

The Ketu North Scholar Awards scheme continues to serve as a beacon of hope, reinforcing the transformative power of education in communities.
