Co-founder and Co-President of the JEQ Foundation, Dr. Elizabeth Quansah, has appealed to university managements to ensure the timely release of semester results to facilitate scholarship awards for deserving students.
The appeal comes after the Foundation presented six laptops to students during its 2026 Laptop Award Ceremony held at the University of Ghana SRC Union Building on Tuesday, June 9.
Speaking to Univers News, Dr. Quansah said delays in the release of academic results and other essential documents often disrupt the Foundation’s scholarship selection process, making it difficult to meet funding deadlines and support students on time.
According to her, the Foundation relies on updated transcripts and tuition information to assess applicants and determine their eligibility for scholarships. However, delays from some institutions have created challenges for both the Foundation and prospective beneficiaries.
“We have a deadline to follow by the U.S. federal government. We have a deadline to spend all the money we raise and all the money we put in for the foundation. So if we don’t get the information from the schools on time, it becomes a challenge for us,” she said.
Dr. Quansah noted that some students are forced to look elsewhere for financial support because the Foundation is unable to complete its assessment process before critical deadlines.
“Some of the students have to go and look for their funding because they didn’t meet the deadline, which is not good for them,” she added.
She therefore called on university authorities, particularly deans and administrators, to support the Foundation by providing preliminary transcripts and tuition information where possible to speed up the scholarship assessment process.
“If they could help us to get the pre-transcripts and pre-tuition information, that would be very, very good for our work because it stalls everything. If we don’t have the updated transcript and don’t have the updated tuition, we can’t really proceed,” she explained.
Dr. Quansah warned that delays in obtaining the required academic records could ultimately disadvantage qualified students.
“Somebody can be qualified for the scholarship, but because of the delay in transcripts, we may just skip and give it to somebody else,” she noted.
The JEQ Foundation provides scholarships and educational support to brilliant but needy students across Ghana and says timely access to academic records remains critical to ensuring deserving students receive assistance when they need it.
