Otto Addo relieved of duties as Black Stars head coach amid poor run of results

The Ghana Football Association has officially parted ways with Black Stars head coach Otto Addo with immediate effect, following a string of disappointing results.

The Association expressed its appreciation to Addo for his service and wished him well in his future endeavours, adding that a new technical direction for the senior national team will be announced in due course.

Addo’s departure comes amid mounting pressure after Ghana’s poor run of form, including back-to-back defeats in recent international friendlies.

The Black Stars have struggled for consistency in recent months, raising concerns about their readiness ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The former Borussia Dortmund talent coach returned to the role in a rebuilding phase, tasked with reshaping the squad by blending experienced players with emerging talents. However, despite flashes of promise, results failed to meet expectations.

During his tenure, Addo guided Ghana through key assignments, including World Cup qualifiers, but recurring defensive lapses and inconsistent performances ultimately led to his exit.

His dismissal signals yet another transition for the Black Stars, as the GFA looks to stabilise the team and restore confidence among fans.

An interim coach is expected to be named soon, with attention now turning to upcoming fixtures and the long-term rebuilding of the national team.
