The 2025 GHALCA Top 4 Tournament began on Wednesday, August 20, at the University of Ghana Stadium, ushering in a fresh wave of excitement as fans gathered to watch four of Ghana’s top clubs test their strength ahead of the new league season.
Match Day 1 delivered drama, goals, and storylines that will fuel the competition in the coming weeks.
In the opening fixture, Asante Kotoko struck first, silencing the champions with an early goal that had their fans in full voice. But Bibiani Gold Stars, true to their resilient character, roared back into the contest.
They drew level with a well-worked equalizer before sealing the turnaround with a decisive second goal.
The 2–1 comeback victory not only underlined the fighting spirit that carried Gold Stars to last season’s league triumph but also highlighted Kotoko’s need to sharpen their defensive organization before the campaign kicks off.
The second match of the day pitted Hearts of Oak against Heart of Lions, and though it lacked the comeback drama of the earlier game, it offered tension in equal measure.
The Phobians found their breakthrough just before half-time when Ransford Mensah’s free kick deflected off a Lions defender and rolled into the net.
That stroke of fortune proved enough, as Hearts managed the game smartly in the second half to close out a tight 1–0 win.
With both Gold Stars and Hearts of Oak collecting maximum points, Match Day 2 already shapes up as a heavyweight battle between the two winners for early supremacy in the standings.
On the other side, Kotoko and Heart of Lions will be desperate to bounce back when they lock horns, knowing another slip could leave them chasing the pack.
The opening day of the 2025 GHALCA Top 4 has set the perfect tone, full of resilience, narrow margins, and the promise of a thrilling preseason showdown.
