Manchester United’s aggrieved forward, Cristiano Ronaldo, has hit out at the club, claiming he feels betrayed after being compelled by certain personalities to depart the club.
He made these wild claims in an exclusive interview with ace broadcaster, Pers Morgan.
Cristiano Ronaldo said, “I feel betrayed, and I felt that some people didn’t want me here, not only this year but last year too.”
The Portuguese captain went further to chastize manager Erik Ten Hag for what he deems ‘disrespectful’ treatment by the Dutch gaffer.
“I don’t have respect for him because he doesn’t show respect for me,” per the Sun. “If you don’t have respect for me, I’m never gonna have respect for you. If you don’t have respect for me, I’m never gonna have respect for you.”
Ronaldo said.
Ronaldo has had confrontations with the manager after refusing to come on as a sub against Tottenham Hotspur in the latter stages of the game.
Before Ronaldo’s return to Manchester United, he was reportedly on his way to United’s Arch-rivals Manchester City, but a phone call from former manager Sir Alex Ferguson made him choose his old club over City.
Ronaldo indicated during the interview that he followed his heart to return to United.
“I followed my heart,” he says simply, tapping his chest. “He (Sir Alex) said to me, ‘It’s impossible for you to come to Manchester City’, and I said, ‘OK, Boss’.”
The 37-year-old refused to report to pre-season after reportedly wanting to leave the club for a club elsewhere.
Unfortunately, Ronaldo’s ambition of joining an elite club in Europe was shattered after potential suitors turned down the opportunity to sign him.
This season has been one of the worst seasons for the five-time ballon D’or winner after scoring once and registering zero assists in ten appearances in the premier league and netting two goals and two assists in six appearances in the UEFA Europa League.
Cristiano Ronaldo is currently with the Portuguese national team training and preparing ahead of the World cup in Qatar as they begin their campaign against the black stars of Ghana.
The Portuguese skipper will be hoping to make an impact in the tournament to redeem his image amidst the controversies surrounding him.
