Ange Postecoglou dismissed as Nottingham Forest manager after just 39 days in role

Nottingham Forest have sacked head coach Ange Postecoglou after just 39 days in charge, bringing an abrupt end to one of the shortest managerial spells in Premier League history.

The Australian coach was appointed on September 9, 2025, replacing Nuno Espírito Santo with hopes of bringing attacking football and renewed energy to the City Ground.

However, things quickly fell apart. Postecoglou failed to win any of his eight matches, with six defeats and two draws, and Saturday’s 3–0 home loss to a ten-man Chelsea side proved to be the final straw for the Forest hierarchy.

A club statement released shortly after the game confirmed his departure, citing a “series of disappointing results and performances.” The statement added that the club would make no further comment at this time.

Postecoglou’s reign was marked by frustration both on and off the pitch. His trademark high-intensity, possession-based approach clashed with a squad more accustomed to Nuno’s counter-attacking style.

The team appeared disjointed, struggling to adapt to his system, while confidence visibly dipped as results worsened.

Reports also suggest that owner Evangelos Marinakis had grown increasingly frustrated, leaving his seat before full-time during the Chelsea defeat—a sign of what was to come.

The sacking leaves Forest searching for their third manager of the season, raising questions about stability and long-term direction at the club.

Names such as Roberto Mancini and Sean Dyche have already been mentioned as possible replacements, though no decision has been made.

For Postecoglou, the dismissal is a sharp fall from grace after his successful spell at Tottenham Hotspur, where he guided the team to European success.

His short-lived time at Forest serves as a reminder of the unforgiving nature of Premier League management, where expectations are high and patience is often in short supply.

As the club looks to recover from another managerial shake-up, fans will be hoping for a steady hand to restore confidence and salvage their season before it unravels completely.
