The second edition of the Democracy Cup is now scheduled to take place at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium on Friday, September 5, 2025.

Initially planned for August 29 at the Accra Sports Stadium, the change in date and venue was officially announced by Ghana’s Parliament on Thursday, August 21.

The highly anticipated clash will see Accra Hearts of Oak face off against their city rivals, Accra Great Olympics, in a match set to celebrate both the spirit of football and the principles of democracy.

Initiated by the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Bagbin, the Democracy Cup aims to reinforce the principles of democracy through the unifying power of football.

Its inaugural edition took place in 2024, where Asante Kotoko edged Hearts of Oak in a tightly contested match at the Accra Sports Stadium.

This year’s event at the University of Ghana is more than just a football match — it symbolizes the nation’s commitment to democratic governance.

As the whistle blows on September 5, it will not only mark the start of a game but serve as a reminder that in Ghana, democracy thrives when everyone plays by the rules, and that power rests with the people, and justice belongs to all.
