Ghanaian rapper and songwriter Qwesi Mystiical has shared a moving account of his music journey and the inspiration behind his latest single, Obra Part 2 featuring Koo Ntakra.

Speaking on At The DJ’s Mercy with Kvng Kelly on August 29, 2025, the rising artist revealed that music has never been just a hobby for him, but a lifeline.

He recalled how his creative journey began with sketching superheroes like Superman and Spiderman before being drawn into music through his father’s massive sound system. Constantly hearing the classics of reggae group UB40, gospel icon Esther Smith, and later falling in love with Sarkodie and Yaa Pono, Qwesi said he became so inspired that he even studied the artists who had influenced his idols.

Interestingly, he admitted that inspiration often comes in unusual ways, confessing that his most unique writing spot is “the Lou.”

The story behind Obra Part 2

Qwesi Mystiical revealed that Obra Part 2 is not just a track but a continuation of his life story. The single builds on Obra Part 1, which reflected his painful upbringing.

“I had a very tough upbringing where I had stepmom issues. The love of my life was my grandma and my dad. But at a point, my dad fell in love with my stepmom more than he loved us. It became imbalanced, and I actually preferred to sleep on the street than be at home,” he shared.

While Obra Part 1 was never widely promoted, Part 2 came to life through an unexpected connection with Yaa Pono and Koo Ntakra. After a performance with Yaa Pono, Qwesi gave Koo Ntakra a ride home and later sent him the song with space for a verse. Coincidentally, Koo had just lost his father, and that grief inspired a powerful verse. The two later finalised the record at Mono’s studio, completing it almost instantly.

How Obra earned him $300 from the Diaspora

The impact of Obra Part 2 has gone beyond Ghana’s borders. After an interview on GH Talks Radio, where Koo Ntakra also works as a presenter, Qwesi received a surprising message from a Diaspora listener.

“He DM’d me saying, ‘Yo Charlie, the song is hard. When you were performing and explaining the lyrics, I connected to it. Your song is inspiring — I’ve gone through similar things. I’d like to appreciate you with something small,’” Qwesi recalled.

What seemed like a casual promise turned into a real blessing when the supporter wired him $300.

“I thought he meant something like 20 cedis momo, but truly, he sent me $300. I was shocked,” he admitted.

What’s next for Qwesi Mystiical?

Looking ahead, Qwesi Mystiical confirmed he is working on a brand-new EP and hinted at a major collaboration with Yaa Pono in 2026.

With his storytelling ability, raw energy, and the unique way he transforms personal struggles into music, Qwesi Mystiical is fast carving a name for himself in Ghana’s rap and hiplife space.
