Spanish football manager, Unai Emery has left helms of affairs at Spanish side Villareal to take charge of Aston Villa as the new head coach of the English club announced on Monday.
Emery takes over the reins of Steven Gerrard, who was sacked last week following a 3-0 defeat to Fulham.
Unai Emery leaves Villareal after achieving unprecedented success with the Spanish side.
He won the 2020/21 Europa League after beating Manchester United and also reached the Champions semi-finals last season after beating Bayern Munich in the quarter-finals and going on to lose to Liverpool in the semis.
Before that, he guided Sevilla to three successive Europa League titles between 2013 and 2016, moving on to PSG where he won the French League 1 once.
The Spaniard will be returning to England for the second time after a not-very-successful spell as coach of Arsenal, with whom he took to the Europa League final and was thrashed 4-1 by rivals Chelsea in Baku.

In a statement that announced the 50-year-old, Aston Villa said: “Aston Villa is delighted to announce the appointment of Unai Emery as the Club’s new head coach.”
His former club Villareal also wished him well, having highlighted his achievements during his time at the club. They said: “Emery has gone down in Villareal history for becoming the first coach to win a title with the club, the UEFA Europa League, as well as the historic achievement of reaching the Champions League semi-finals last year and helping the team qualify for the European competition for two consecutive seasons.”
Unai Emery will be looking to restore confidence back into to Villa team after a poor start to the season, which sees the club just one place above the Premier League relegation zone after winning just two of the 11 league game matches played.
