Some members of the public have urged Black Stars’ defender, Baba Abdul Rahman to consider  joining a new club to revive his career despite being included in the list of players Chelsea Football Club have retained for the 2023/24 season.

Baba Rahman, 28, joined the London side in the 2015 summer window on a five-year deal from Bundesliga side Augsburg for a fee in the region of £14m.

The defender has not spent a single season with the club and he is under contract with Chelsea until 2024, he has spent loan stints with several clubs in the last five seasons where he has mostly played in Germany and England.

Univers Sports engaged the public on whether the Ghanaian should leave Chelsea on permanent basis or not. The majority of Ghanaians hold the opinion that he cannot succeed at Chelsea, while some think that the club’s new technical direction will mark a turning point in his Chelsea career.

One member of the public said a player of Baba Rahman’s calibre can break into most of the mid table teams.

“Baba has no business at Chelsea, that has been the status quo, he is always retained and when the season is about to start then he will be loaned out to the Championship which is not befitting for him. I honestly believe he needs stability with regards to his club side,” Bello revealed to Univers Sports

Another person urged Baba Rahman to decide on a new club permanently in order to relaunch his career.

“Baba joined Chelsea at the age of 24 and we all thought it was a right move for him to develop well but now he is 28 or 29 yet we can’t categorically stick a claim for his general output at the club level in Europe. The only thing you might remember about him was his move from Greuther Furth to Augsburg where he had a wonderful season, but ever since his move away from Augsburg he’s been a pale shadow of himself. So I think he should just opt for another club permanently to rekindle his career”. James said

One individual indicated that the upcoming season will be a successful one for the Ghanaian.

“Come to think of it he has been loaned out since his move but this might be a different season all together, with the new manager Pochettino there might be a change in destiny for Baba. A fit Baba Rahman under Mauricio Pochettino can thrive well. All he needs is to stay fit and fight for his position,”. Ike told Univers Sports

A move back to Germany would be the best footballing decision to take – One Ghanaian said

“I have forgotten he is a Chelsea player, if his contract is yet to run out he should just force his way out of the club and find a permanent club to continue with his career. Knowing very well he is in the twilight of his career a permanent move will just be the best for him especially if he makes a move back Germany where he enjoyed his best season in Europe.” Fred disclosed to Univers Sports

His short stint at Chelsea saw him feature in 15 games for the Blues, Rahman’s contract with Chelsea is set to expire at the end of the upcoming season.

Despite making the list, the former Asante Kotoko player is expected to be sent out on loan and that will be his 8th since joining Chelsea.
